The employers: GKIDS is an independent film distributor and multimedia company associated with the New York Int’l Children’s Film Festival, the largest festival for kids in the United States. They are working to revolutionize the idea of what passes for “kids films” and have a distinct interest in high quality, artist-driven animation, and films that portray the youth experience in an authentic and interesting way, even if the film may target adults.
The job: Interns will be responsible for researching and requesting potential film acquisitions, researching and contacting new theatrical and non-theatrical venues, coordinating delivery of publicity materials to theaters and press, and helping with a variety of other company projects. Interns should be excellent communicators with a strong work ethic, and very comfortable with online research techniques. Interest in movies is a must, and general knowledge of the independent/arthouse scene is a definite plus. Additional skills like foreign languages, HTML, Filemaker, Final Cut, Photoshop, etc. are a big help, but not required.
