The Athena Film Festival will explore what makes a leader, examining the values women leaders share – vision, courage, resilience – and explore leadership across race, class, and culture.

The Festival will highlight the wide diversity of women’s leadership in both real life and the fictional world, illuminating the stories of women from across the globe who have made a difference in their countries and communities. Its goal is to open a robust dialogue about women and leadership: what it takes to excel, collaborate, lead, and inspire.

The Festival will showcase features, documentaries and shorts including The Whistleblower starring Rachel Weisz, Wish Me Away, the coming out journey of country singer Chely Wright, Black Butterflies starring Carice Van Houten, who won the best actress award at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, and HBO’s Gloria: In Her Own Words, a documentary about Gloria Steinem. The Lady starring Michelle Yeoh as Burmese activist Aung San Suu Kyi will serve as the closing film of the Festival.

We are currently looking to fill a few positions in our club.

We are looking for a Assistant to Production Season Producer—to help our current one, Isaiah Everin, in managing production workshops and assisting the directors in producing their films for the spring production season (this position would lead into being the producer next year).

We are also looking for an Casting Director. The casting director will organize implementing online casting calls to gather and audition actors for our production season films.

We’re hoping to find people who are creative and ambitious to bring CUFP into more contact with our members and expand what opportunities we can make available. Please do not be shy! If you’re interested in any of these positions, please email cufilmproductions@columbia.edu with your interest, relevant experience, and a copy of your resume.

Interviews for both positions will be held on Sunday, December 11th.

Deadline: All entries must be submitted on or before 5 pm., Tuesday, December 20, 2011. No extensions will be granted. Winners will be announced in January 2012 or sooner if practicable.

“BONESHAKER follows a Ghanaian immigrant family taking a road trip to a Pentecostal church in Louisiana to cure their violent daughter. As the family journeys to a tent revival at the ends of the levee-less Louisiana delta, they discover the complications of trying to perform a traditional ritual away from home. BONESHAKER focuses on the feelings of homelessness, landlessness, and rootlessness that accompany immigration.“
